Abstract
This study was conducted for the purpose of finding out the attitude and
motivation of grade 9 English teachers and students towards teaching and
learning EFL through plasma TV. It was conducted in Holeta and
Menegesha senior Secondary schools in west showa Zone.
For this purpose, one hundred fifty (150) grade nine (9) students and
eleven (11) English teachers from both mentioned schools were
participated in the study. In order to collect the necessary data,
questionnaire, Interview and classroom observation were successively
used. The data collected through questionnaire and classroom observation
were tabulated and analyzed in terms of frequency, percentage and mean
value quantitatively. Likewise, data obtained from interview were organized
and described qualitatively.
On the basis of the analysis made, it was concluded that both teachers
and students were found to have positive attitude and motivations towards
teaching and learning through PTV.However, the pace of PTVteacher, the
time allotment for each activity and for different lessons, the time allotted
for classroom teacher to do the necessary facilitation, the interruption of
program due to electricity, and technical problems of the PTVitself are the
major factors which were found to affect their positive feelings.
Based on the findings of the conducted study, some important
recommendation have been forwarded to address certain issues that were
indicated specially to affect certain positive feelings.
