Abstract

This project work has designed and implemented a web based Road Traffic Accident Reporting System (RTARS) for Ethiopia which will enable traffic police offices and other road safety stakeholders to get summarized online traffic accident information at various levels easily and quickly. System requirements have been rigorously collected from the federal police commission central traffic accident analysis department and by consulting related literatures and software products which are used in other countries. The design and implementation of the system is done in accordance to the identified functional and non functional requirements. The system has different subsystem to meet its core functionalities. An administration subsystem authenticates administrators and traffic police officers to login to the system and executes their defined task. The accident registration sub system allows the traffic police officer to enter and submit road traffic accident details using a simple to use wizard based interface. A report and query subsystem enables any interested users of the system to view some predefined reports and find particular accident records. Moreover the system is implemented with Amharic language interface for maximizing its usability and it can also displays an accident location on Google map.
