A total of 21 sediment samples were collected from Awasa and Ziway Lakes for triazine herbicide residues and their metabolites analysis. The samples were air dried and extracted following standard procedures. All of the organic extracts were yellow colored and also some particulates were present. For this reason and for the possible presence of macro-organic compounds a florisil clean up was carried out. The intense yellow color of the extracts was significantly reduced but it was not totally removed, therefore, further clean up by activated charcoal is required. Moreover, the moisture contents of the sediment samples were also determined prior to the analyte extraction. It was found that the moisture contents determined were around 1 %, except fro one sample collected from Ziway whose value was around 3.8 %. The relatively high value obtained here could be due to muddy nature of the sample, which could also be seen visually. The extracts were stored at 4oC in a refrigerator for future HPLC analysisen_US
