dc.description.abstractis now constructing a modern and reliable railway industry, consequently; one main problem of the Rail vehicle transportation industry is its accidents. This paper will attempt to develop a passive safety consideration for rail vehicle cab using computational methods for predicting the rail vehicle cab structural dynamic behavior under collision for enhancement in its crush worthiness. The rail vehicle cab structural dynamic behavior under collision analysis is done for light rail transit (LRT) vehicle cab, through finite element method (FEM) and it is one of the non-linear finite element problems as the vehicle cab structure is the assembly of multiple parts, diverse structural shape and is made of different materials. During crush, these parts experience high impact loads resulting in high stresses. Once these stresses exceed the material yield load and/or the buckling critical limit, the crashing structural components undergo large progressive elastic-plastic deformation and/or buckling. This system absorbs 4.5MJ kinetic energy in a progressive of 2.25m deformation length. The whole process occurs within very short time durations and this is simulated by non-linear FEM using ANSYS (LS-DYNA).en_US
