dc.description.abstractThe major purpose of this study is to assess problems encountered teacher utilization in regional College of Teacher Education in Ethiopia. The sample consisted of 305 teachers and 10 Deans including vice deans who were drawn from 5 sampled regional colleges of teacher education. All the deans were included in the study and teachers were selected by simple random sample technique to achieve the objective of the study employed. Statistical data, together with questionnaire and unstructured interviews were the main instruments used to collect data. The data collected was analyzed using various statistical tools such as percentage, mean, chi-square test statistic and Spearman's rank order correlation coefficient. So that the test statistic is identified at the level of significance a = 5% . From the results obtained, the majority of the college teachers were not been interested to teach in regional colleges and were looking for another opportunity elsewhere. None of the teachers hold the Ph.D degree. In addition, there were teachers assigned to teach subjects for which they were not prepared ego regional languages. However, the findings revealed that teacher assignment in the colleges was carried out mostly on the basis of subject specialization. Concerning teaching assignment, there were unequal distribution of load with some teachers having been over burdened and others underutilized. The professional support provided by various educational officers are inadequate. Generally large class-size, lack of professional support, in adequate opportunity for in service training, lack of attractive physical environment were the major factors that negatively affected the effective use of teachers in colleges. The researcher, recommends action for the improvement of the situation by upgrading teachers through in-service and, therefore, further studies and employing qualified management specialists as deans that can give teachers professional support.en_US
