Abstract
The purpose of this study is to assess employees’ perception on the effect of the four components of organizational culture (named Involvement, Consistency, Adaptability and Mission) on performance management practices in the Economic Commission for Africa.
The research attempts to fill the gap of literature related to this topic by studying the situation of of ECA and to provide more empirical evidence on the impact of organizational culture on performance management practices by investigating and measuring the possible relationships between the variables. It adopted an explanatory approach. The target population of this research was 346 employees out of which 104 employees were taken as a sample using simple random sampling and purposive sampling technique. The sample was composed of 30 professional staff, 14 national officers and 60 staff from the general service category. The sample consists of both male and female employees of the organization. The researcher tries to ascertain if there is a link between organizational culture and performance management practices, and access the effect of the traits of organizational culture on performance management practices. In ordered to achieve the above objectives, primary data was collected through questionnaire. The gathered data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Pearson Correlation and regression analysis were conducted to determine the relationship and the effect of two variables by using SPSS.
The result shows that there is a positive relationship between organizational culture and performance management practice in ECA. The statistical analysis reveal that Consistency, Mission and Adaptability have stronger correlation to performance management practice in ECA while involvement have lower relationship with performance management practice. Finally, this thesis concludes that organizational culture influences the performance management practices and recommends that ECA conducts further study to assess the impact of involvement trait on performance management so as to improve the approach towards enhanced employee engagement and empowerment to ensure a positive impact on performance management practices for the overall effectiveness of the Organization’s performance.
