The age of information brought lots of opportunity to the global economy. E-government is one of the potential advantages of Information and Communication Technology. E-government is defined as the delivery of government services and information to the public using electronic means. Among many of the e-government services, vital event registration application, which is characterized as Public-Interface Services Application (PISA), is the main e-government application for the provision of e-government related services and information to the public at large. Vital event registration is the systematic, continuous, permanent, compulsory and universal recording of the occurrence and characteristics of vital events (live births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and divorces) and other civil status events pertaining to the population as provided by decree, law or regulation, in accordance with the legal requirements in each country. This project aimed to develop Enhanced Electronic Vital Events Registration System for Ethiopia, which can handle the five (birth, death, marriage, divorce, and adoption) major vital events. To address the problem a web-based application which handles birth, death, marriage, divorce, and adoption is developed. The application serves both in Amharic and English. The system is designed in such a way to be accessible via the Internet. Customers have access based on their privilege level. The system enables registration, update of individual records, generating reports based on the demand of the customer, issuance of certificates and index cards upon registration of events, certification of vital events documents, and viewing of individual records for special customers such as court. Object oriented software engineering and ASP.NET 3.5 platform is employed to develop the project.en_US
