Abstract
The purpose oj this study was to assess the perception towards ITA and its application in
grade11 Physics teaching in selected preparatolY schools oj Horro - Cuduru Wollega Zone. It
was also to investigate Jactors that may i,!!!uence the application oj instructional task
assignments in the preparatOlY schools under study. Out ofrour preparatOlY schools in the zone,
two (Amuru and Shambu) were taken as samples Teachers, students, principals and supervisors
were included in the study. The schools and the subject were selected through purposive
sampling technique. Systematic sampling procedure was employed to select students while
teachers, school principals and supervisors were selected by purposive sampling technique. A
method used was descriptive survey method. Two basic research questions about the perception
tuwards ITA and its application and the Jactors affecting the application oj instructional task
assignments were treated. Questionnaire, interviews and classroom observations were used as
data collecting instruments. The study demonstrated that the perception and students and
teachers towards ITA was unJavorable. The results oj the study revealed that students' interest
and participation in doing instructional task assignments in Physics teaching was Jound to be
low. It was also disclosed that the application oj instructional task assignment in Physics
teaching was low. Accordingly, class works, home works and group works are IIsed some times
while laboratory and project works are non existent. Concerning the filctors affecting the
application oJinstructional task assignments, teacher-related, student-related and school-related
Jactors were identified. Finally, some possible recommendations are made based on the findings
oj the study so as to see Javorable perception oj students and teachers and effective
implementations oJinstructional task assignments in teaching physics.
