Abstract

The major concern of this study was to examme the extent to which psychological variables (trait anxiety, cognitive anxiety, intrinsic motivation and self- confidence) predict players' performance in a game. Selections of 100 subjects were done by using proportional random sampling. Data were gathered by using SMS, SCAT and C SAT-2. Performance of each player was obtained from each coach. The Data collected through these instruments were analyzed by Pearson product moment correlation, multiple and step wise regression statistical techniques. Results obtained through correlati~n displayed that negative and significant relationship was found between self- confidence and performance, between intrinsic motivation and performance. Cognitive anxiety, on the other hand, positively and significantly correlated with performance of the players. Multiple regression analysis revealed that cognitive anxiety, trait anxiety and self- confidence were independently significant predictors of performance.
