A nell' macrocyclic ligand (L) and its metal complexes formulated as [ MLChA J Cly ( M Cu (11), Ni(II) L= Tz - ACAC - 20 & A = non chelating ligand ) have been synthesized by template condensation and high dilution techniques ji"om 4- Hydroxy- 2, 6- Bis( hydrazino)- s- triazine ( HBHTz ), acetylacetone and the metal chlorides. The HBHTz was synthesized ji"o/Il 4- Hydroxy- 2,6- dichloro- s- triazine ( DCHTz ) which in turn synthesized ji"om cyanuric chloride and phenol / NaOH mixture. Tz - ACAC - 20 shows low affinity for nickel (11) especially under the direct (high dilution) synthesis, which can be ascribed to incompatible cavity size. The prepared complexes were characterized by solution electronic spectra, magnetic moments, solution conductance measurements, atomic absorption spectroscopy, elemental analysis, NMR and IR spectroscopies. The electrical conductivity of the Ni (11) chelate indicated it to be 1: 2 electrolyte and that of Cu (11) complex to be a non electrolyte. Magnetic susceptibilities, conductance measurements & spectroscopic evidences suggest that copper complex to sholl' an octahedral geometry whereas the Ni (11) complex to have a tetrahedral structure.en_US
