The purpose of this study was to explore and assess the teaching learning practices of high ability students in Menelik I Science Shared Campus at Kotebe Metropolitan University. With regard to the research design employed cross-sectional research design was adopted. The research methodology employed in the study was both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Accordingly, a questionnaire was prepared to be filled by teachers and students for the quantitative data; and interviews were administered for vice principals and educational experts for the qualitative data. Data obtained through questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics and non- parametric test such as Chi-square test. The findings of the study revealed that there was a need for improving the quality of the teaching learning process for high ability students. The study also revealed that there were many challenges in implementing the education of high ability students such us shortage of supervision, well designed curriculum, quality pre service, in-service training for teachers and school principals, inadequate resources, including budget, teaching learning materials and equipment. Generally acceleration, enrichment and significant assessment strategies are not implemented. Educational experts were not sufficiently participating in high ability student’s education. I have seen in this research that students are not compared based on their ranks; rather they are graded by standard grading system which emphasis the students’ ability to challenge themselves. Results were discussed and recommendations forwarded.en_US
