Abstract
This Project work examined the effect of stress on employee productivity in selected manufacturing firms in Ethiopia, Meta Abo Brewery. The Person-environment (PE) Fit theory
was employed as the theoretical framework. The population of the study consisted of four hundred employees of Meta Abo Brewery. The statistical formula employed to determine the
sample size of 100.The data generated were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and multiple regression analysis at a 5% level of significance. The results showed that workfamily interaction exerts a significant negative influence on employee productivity, organizational climate has a significant negative effect on employee productivity and Role ambiguity has also a significant effect on employee productivity. The study, therefore, concluded that workplace stress has a significant negative effect on employee productivity in manufacturing firm – Meta Abo Brewery. The results of the regression analysis shows that the three independent variables (organizational climate, role ambiguity, work family interaction) of the study explains 35% (R2=0.35) of the dependent variable (the productivity of employees).The study among other things recommended that management should encourage employees to spend time with their family and that they should be allowed to go home at a reasonable time, create favorable work climate and establish a policy that will have good role clarity plans, which can relieve the employees from the future role ambiguity.
