dc.description.abstract | Background: : Nurses have been trained to provide patient care and improve their patient’s quality of life, but their own needs and their own quality of work life has been largely ignored. There is also less evidence in Ethiopia which explain the quality of work life of nurses. Objective: The objective of this study was to assess quality of work life and associated factors among nurses working in public Hospitals of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Methodology: Institutional based cross-sectional study design was conducted on 382 nurses. Participants were selected by using systematic random sampling technique. Data was collected using self-administered structured and pre-tested questionnaire. Data-gathering instrument consisted of two parts. The first part consisted of questions on demographic information and the second part was the Walton’s quality of work life questionnaire. Data was analysed using SPSS version 20 software. For statistical analysis, one way ANOVA were used to identify determinants and p value <0.05 were considered as statistically significant association. Results: : The results of the study showed that 77.5% of nurses reported that they had moderate level of quality of work life while18.3 % undesirable and 4.2% had good quality of working life. Nurses with Master’s degree reported a better quality of working life than others. A significant relationship was found between variables such as education level, work unit, and attending training with quality of working life score (P < 0.05). No significant differences were observed in quality of working life score of nurses with salary (P = 0.385), age, gender, work experience and marital status (P > 0.05). Conclusions: Majority of Nurses' quality of work life was at the moderate level. Educational status, work unit and attending training are factors with significantly associated to quality of work life of the respondent an important impact on relevant to nurses’ quality of work life. It is necessary to pay more attention to the nurses’ quality of work life and its associated factors. Keywords: Quality of work Life; Nurses, Public hospital | en_US |
