Studies of the Electrical Double Layer at the Water/O-Dichlorobenzene Interface

Abstract

Studies of the electrical double layer across the water/0-dichlorobensene interiace have been made using the impedance technique. The in-phase and quadrature components of the ac current havebeen converted to capacitance data by standard methos for various supporting electrolytes in the organic and aqueous phases and at different cocentration. The potential of zero charge was determind by using the streaming jet electrode technique. The potentials of the capacitals of the capacitance miinimums have been compared with the potentials of the streaming electrode.from these data no specific ionic adsorption was observed for most of the electrolytes. However the TDA+cation seeme to shw specific ionic adsorption.Theexperimental interfacial capaciyances were also compared with the theorotical diffuse layer capacitances calculated from the Gouy-Chapman theory.
