The 3’, 4’-diammino-2, 2’: 5’, 2’’-ter thiophene ligand dissolved in chloroform was used to synthesize metal complexes of Ni (II) and Zn (II). They have been characterized by analysis magnetic susceptibility and IR, UV, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The conductivity measurement shows that the Ni (II) complex is electrolyte while the Zn (II) complex is non-electrolyte and the chlorides are coordinated in the inner sphere of the Zn (II) metal complex. Except in DMSO both metal complexes are insoluble in most common solvents. For both complexes, the metal to ligand ratio in the complex is 1:1. The data show both Ni (II) and Zn (II) complexes with formulae [NiLCl(H2O) 3].Cl.6H2O and [ZnLCl2(H2O)2].2H2O respectively possess octahedral geometry in which the ligand behaves as a neutral NN donor.
