Abstract
In this project, a phytochemical study has been undertaken on the leaves of
Leonotis ocymifolia and the solvent extract of the plant has been conducted.
Leonotis ocymifolia is indigenous to Eastern and Southern Africa and is
occasionally cultivated for its medicinal uses, which include acting as
ascaricide, an anticancer drug, and as a treatment for ulcers, wounds,
obesity and eczema.
The ethanol extract of the leaves of Leonotis ocymifolia led to the isolation of
two compounds A and E. The structure of compound A was determined by
means of spectroscopic methods (IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and DEPT) but the
structure of compound E could not be determined because of its small
amount which led to see no carbon atom in its 13C NMR spectrum
