dc.description.abstractReinforced concrete buildings elements mostly designed for loads from live, dead and lateral load from wind and earthquake. But due to the use of basement floors for car parking and garage purpose the internal columns are susceptible for unforeseen accidental load arise from vehicular impact. This research presents the study on the response of reinforced concrete columns which are designed for axial load case due to gravity only when subjected to accidental vehicular impact load using Sap2000v14.Even the loading condition is dynamic the equivalent static impact load is taken 75KN in our case according to Euro code for accidental load case and the impact height is 0.75m from bottom of the column. The design parameters considered includes the vertical steel ratio, concrete cross sectional area, axial load, different concrete and steel grade. The PMM ratio (capacity ratio) and shear capacity result indicates that columns with higher concrete sections are safer and also columns with lesser longitudinal steel ratio safer than with equivalent (axial load carrying) column section with higher longitudinal steel ratio which are designed to carry the same axial load. Additionally sections designed to support higher axial load (supporting more and more stories) are safer when compared to those supporting lesser axial load.en_US
