dc.description.abstractEmployee engagement is a popular term among HR management professionals and academics alike. Research after research is done to establish why engagement should be on top of every executive’s agenda. This study aimed at assessing the Role of Selected Human Resource Practices on Employee Engagement in Commercial Bank of Ethiopia – a company in the banking sector that need engaged employees and the result of having such employees is a known fact. The study was conducted using quantitative method using mean, correlation, chi square tests and linear regression. 287 employee’s questionnaire responses were analyzed. Simple Random Sampling was used. The major finding of the study are the overall engagement level of employees of commercial bank of Ethiopia is 69% (mean of 3.45) based on Gallup’s model classification of Employees relative with engagement level 50.8% are Engaged, 42.9% are Not-Engaged and 6.3 % Disengaged. Among from the demographic variables Employee Engagement level varies between different; Age, work Experience and Position status groups. Among the selected human resource practices all Communication, Development, Reward and Recognition and Extended Employee Care all have positive linear significant relationship to Employee Engagement and Communication, Development, Reward and Recognition and Extended Employee Care has explained the variance in the dependent variable of Employee Engagement 42.4%, 36.5%, 26.4% and 27.9% respectively i.e. communication the dominant driver and reward and recognition the least one. So that continuous measurement of employee engagement level and HR practices, assessing engagement practices and talking timely action is recommended.
