The genus vernonia is one of the largest groups in the family Asteraceae and includes more than 1000 species distributed widely in tropical and sub tropical regions of Africa, Asia and America. Vernonia galamensis is a new potential industrial oil seed crop for semiarid areas with very high content of naturally epoxidized vernolic acid (80% of the oil). The epoxy oil of this seed also contains linoleic acid (12% to14%), oleic acid (4% to 6 %), stearic acid (2% to 3%), palmitic acid (2% to 3%) and a trace amount of arachidic acid. The dichloromethane and methanol extracts of the seed of vernonia galamensis afforded VG-3 and VG-4A respectively. The structural elucidation of these compounds was determined based on IR, UV, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and 2D NMR (COSY, HSQC and HMBC) spectra. Moreover, the literature values of selected 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectra of methyl vernolate are matched with 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectra of VG-3 and VG-4Aen_US
