Abstract
The aim of the study is to assess the vocabulary learning strategies
employed by grade ten students at Chercher Junior High School during
their plasma television English lesson.
In the study, 120 samples of students are u sed. Besides, three
instruments, namely a are a questionnaire, an interview and a
supplementary test were used. The questionnaire was administered to
the 120 sample of students, while the interview and the supplementary
test were administered to 25 samples of students each. The 25 samples
for the interview and the test were selected from the 120 sample students
using systematic sampling method.
The result of the study shows that students are using metacognitive and
cognitive strategies 'frequently', while the other strategies are 'rarely'
used.
Based on the findings, it is recommended that class-teachers should
further strengthen the efforts students make on the use of vocabulary
learning strategies. Besides, it is recommended that class teachers
should inform their students about the uses of resources that can help
them solve the problems they face during the plasma TV vocabulary
lesson.
