| dc.description.abstract | This thesis explores the tensions between postmodernism and human rights discourse through a critical analysis of underlying power dynamics. The thesis traces the philosophical evolution of human rights from classical conceptions of justice through modern individual liberty to postmodern critiques, examining how each tradition has shaped contemporary understanding of human rights. By applying postmodern theoretical frameworks, particularly those of Foucault, Lyotard, Derrida, and Bulter to human rights discourse, this thesis reveals how power dynamics influence the formulation, interpretation, and implementation of supposedly universal human rights. The thesis demonstrates that while human rights discourse aspires to universality, they remain deeply embedded in historical, cultural, and political contexts that reflect existing power structures. Through analysis of specific case studies and critical examination of international human rights system, the thesis suggests a more reflexive approach to human rights that acknowledges their contextual nature while preserving their emancipatory potential. This contribution advances human rights research by bridging the gap between abstract philosophical critique and practical human rights advocacy.
