    Philological and Content Analysis of Gädlä’äbunä Täklä ’Älfā

    This paper deals with the Gädl of ’äbunä Täklä ’älfā, its philological and content analysis. Thecontentanalysis provides fundamental information concerning the historical, theological, governmental, socio-cultural events of the epoch. It also provides the philological and content value of themanuscript.The main objectives of the study are to conduct philological and content analysis onthemanuscriptof Gädlä’äbunä Täklä ’älfā and comment on the philological qualities and inconsistenciestheencountered on the Gädl. In addition, the researcher tried to identify some of the effectsof theattackof Ahmad Gragn on the Orthodox Church. The main concern of the research is theGädl of’äbunäTäklä ’älfā, which was found directly from the monastery. The processes includedinanalyzingthemanuscript is identifying the biography of the Saint, giving philological and content analysisofthemanuscript, briefing the theological values of the Gädl, and distinguishing the inconsistenciesintheGädl. The method used in the process is, in general, qualitative analysis. Fromthismethod,approximate years of birth and death of the saint from the personages intheGädl, theinconsistencies in the Gädl and their corrections and the writer of the Gädl were identified. Thestudyof the Gädl of this saint is essential in knowing the history of the monastery and the peopleof Gojjām.Beside this, it is essential in knowing the suffering the Orthodox Church faced at thetimeofAhmadGragn and the system of administrationof monasteries
