Item Assessment of Monitoring and Evaluation Practices and Challenges of Cow and Poultry Farm Shade Project: The Case of Addis Ababa City Construction Bureau(Addis Ababa University, 2021-08) Zeleke, Sara; Workie, Bantie (PhD)Monitoring and evaluation method is a method that comprises by gathering information and evaluating of it in order to determine whether the progress is being made towards the planned goals and objectives of a project. The aim of this thesis is Assessment of Monitoring and Evaluation Practices and Challenges of Cow and Poultry Farm Shade project implemented by the Addis Ababa city construction bureau. The study adopted a descriptive research design and Data for the study is collected using the questionnaire by developing and distributing Questionnaires. The target population of the study is employees, who are directly and indirectly involved in the project, of Addis Ababa city Construction bureau. Among these target population forty one samples were chosen to get feedback form respondents regarding questions listed in the questionnaire about practices and challenges encountered in the project by using purposive sampling technique. The result of the study shows that the firm has a well-organized M&E system on its projects, but it does not have a guide and framework for it; the study also showed that the function and role of the Monitoring &Evaluation system is not effectively promoted to the staff. Furthermore the employees conducting the Monitoring &Evaluation practices do not have any prior training provided to them or what so ever rather they conduct the process from previous projects experience only. The study also identified challenges in practicing M&E such as Lack of time and resources, Difficulty in communicating the results of M&E and the data tampering during evaluation and monitoring and M&E practices are not being given priority by the management of the firm. Thus, The Addis Ababa city construction bureau should improve the adequacy of its staff performing the monitoring and evaluation practice of the project. A department which is specifically responsible for M&E should be created and a continuous training for the members should be provided. In addition, sufficient time for preparing conducting M&E and adequate resources should be assigned to the process.Item Assessment of Performance in Finishing Construction Projects: A Case of United Bank Share Company Remodeling Finishing Construction Works in Addis Ababa(Addis Ababa University, 2021-06) Gebremadhin, Rahewa; Workie, Bantie (PhD)Project performance is the major thing that can clearly shows the success of one construction process while the project performance itself can rely on several factors. And in this research, investigation was done to inspect the reasons distressing the performance of projects in United Bank Share Company remodeling finishing construction works in Addis Ababa and project performance problem have been observed here that the projects fail to fulfill the requirements due to time schedule as per the plan and quality of deliverables. The key goal of this study is to assess the performance of projects in United Bank Share Company remodeling finishing construction works. Descriptive design had been used in this study to detect the factors behind poor project performances. The data was collected from the professionals participating in the projects through questionnaires and 55 questionnaires were distributed 47 (85.45%) of questionnaire were filled out and returned to the researcher on time. The data gathered was analyzed using SPSS and the results were represented by tables and figures. Depending on the results, the researcher concluded that the main causes of deprived project performance in United Bank Share Company remodeling finishing construction works are tightness of the project time frame, lack of communication in the project between all parties, inadequate payment to the employees, expectation of higher profit by the contractor, weak control mechanism, insufficient quality assessment and overall external environment changes. Depending on those conclusions, the researcher provided several suggestions for the owner to approve or respond to any claims or payment requests; for the contractor to facilitate communication practices and to provide relevant construction materials prior to commencement of the construction process; and to the future researchers to study in this area with detail understanding of project activities..Item The Effect of leadership style on employee Performance: The Case of Major General Hayelom Araya Military Academy(Addis Ababa University, 2020-06) Gebrehiwet, Gebrekiros; Workie, Bantie (PhD)Leadership style is important for improving performance of organization. The aim of the study was assessing the effect of leadership styles on employees’ performance: at Case of Major General Hayelom Araya Military Academy. The main objective of this study was to examine the effect of different leadership styles (democratic, autocratic, and laissez-faire leadership styles) on employees’ performance. The study was used both descriptive and explanatory research designs. The study was used both qualitative and quantitative research approaches. The data have been collected from 137respondents randomly selected employees. The data collected have been analyzed using statistical analysis, both descriptive and interferential ones. The researcher used Descriptive and inferential statistical method for data analysis. The findings showed that autocratic leadership style was the most dominant style at the military academy. Overall, scores shown democratic leadership style were found to be strongly positive correlated with employee performance. Autocratic and laissez-faire leadership style had no relationship with performance. The researcher recommended that democratic leadership is the most effective leadership stylesItem Practice and Challenges of Stakeholder Management: The Case of Addis Ababa City Government Mega Construction Projects Addis Ababa University College of Business and Economics School of Commerce(Addis Ababa University, 2021-06) Taye, Rediet; Workie, Bantie (PhD)This research topic shades a light into the practice of stakeholder management of mega construction projects under Addis Ababa City Government and the challenges that were encountered in the process. It draws a conceptual framework for future research relating to the topic. The main purpose of this project work was to identify the challenges of stakeholder management practice on the delivery of Addis Ababa City Government Mega Construction projects in order to improve stakeholder management practices. Qualitative research approach was applied. Data was gathered through semi-structured interviews with ten respondents and through company documentation. The data was analyzed with the help of the five steps identified by Yin (2015). With the data, codes were detected and later themes were developed. This process revealed five primary themes: The Organizational culture influenced the outlooks and methods of the stakeholder process, The Organizational maturity contributed to the practice of stakeholder management, Outlooks and methods to the stakeholder process were influenced by management strategies , Competencies of internal stakeholders‟ influenced the outlooks and methods of the stakeholder process and Implementation reviews impacted the outlooks and methods of the stakeholder process. The findings revealed the importance of managers expressing management practices that enable stakeholders to reach a similar understanding of project goals, as well as providing a foundation for construction project managers to establish effective stakeholder management strategies. The findings could aid in the promotion of positive social change by encouraging effective stakeholder management to improve exchange of information, individual and team motivation, cross-cultural management, and develop a culture of sustainability. The findings also revealed that the implementation of effective stakeholder management methods was based on a number of elements, including organizational culture, management strategies, competencies, implementation reviews and organizational maturity, which were revealed as themes. According to the study, the project management team must be intimately acquainted on project objectives and convey these to their separate teams, build a strong organizational culture, perform regular reviews, and perform a complete analysis of the project management team's abilities.
