Item Services for Vulnerable Children as a Means of Child Protection in Addis Ababa, Yeka Sub City,Woreda-03(2017-06) Tesfaye, Ashenafi; Hagos, Ashenafi (PhD)Child vulnerability to various forms of neglect is one of the dominant social problems in Addis Ababa, Yeka sub city Woreda-03. The research attempted to describe the services available for vulnerable children. The research design was a cross sectional descriptive survey research. Among the ten sub cities of Addis Ababa, Yeka sub city woreda-03 was chosen for the study. The target groups were vulnerable children between the age group of 12-18 registered in the Woreda-03 vulnerable children list. The study used a two stage sampling to select the children. First, purposive sampling was used to select children from the list. And then, probability sampling with systematic sampling was used to select 174 children from 315 children to get the required information. The methods used to obtain the data included surveys, key informant interview, and personal observations. To address the plight of vulnerable children there are Government, Non-government and Community based organizations operating in the study area. The organizations were provided services such as food and nutrition, health care services, house renovation and economic strengthening. Psychosocial support in the form of counseling and participating in extracurricular activities were also provided. The result of the study also revealed that education and health services were the most frequently cited component of assistance provided to children .The overall assessment indicates that the children did not get adequate service. Those organizations that provided the services should focus on capacitating the children and their families instead of temporary provision.
