    An Analysis of a Wngi Proverbs

    The main goal of this thesis is analysing form and content of Awngi proverbs. As part and paFcel of culture , Awngi proverbs exist and used under cultural sets of principles . They are performed as responses to communicational needs. They are expressive items used in daily conversation. As a result, the analysis is carried- out under the socio-physical context of the communication events. Hence, basic cultural and social systems that govern a communication process as well are taken into account during analysis of the situations of proverb application. The information about those cultural intents is also important to indicate the ways to approach the community at times of effective pedagogical and other development planning and implementation. As rhetorical devices , Awngi proverbs are used to effect the purpose of persuasion . They are applied in situations of tension , crisis or conflict . Hence , they are used to solve problems. Their instructive coni:ent is embedded in each item (text) Awngi proverbs are concise in form. They are poetic in character and sometimes in form , too . In short , they are poetic in character , rhetorical in purpose , instructive in content and applicable at times of crises .
