Item Assessment of the Role of Audit Firms in Reducing Fraud(Addis Ababa Universit, 2017-06) Tadesse Abdi; P. LaxmikanthamThis study examines the roles of external auditors in fraud reduction in Ethiopia including the factors that influence external auditors' responsibility and expert performance in detecting fraud. The study adopts questionnaire data and depth interviews research approach by combining data gathering instruments of research questions, The questionnaire data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and correlations, and data from interview were interpreted qualitatively. The findings of the study show that, auditors are responsible for detection and uncovering fraud, and are legally liable for subsequently discovered misstatement in audited financial statements The results of the research result indicate that most of the private audit firms do not comply with professional ethics and lack independence from their client. This non-compliance came from self-interest, self-review and familiarity threats which results from having family, financial and personal relationship with their clients. Unwillingness to look for fraud because of fear of spoiling good relationship with clients, too much trust placed on the auditees, management and employees, auditor not giving enough emphasis to audit quality, management not having fraud policy; and, failure to focus on high-risk fraud areas. Fraudsters collusion, Absence of clear interpretation of tax law /proclamation, absence of wellorganized professional body in Ethiopia are listed among the most important challenges of auditors fail to detect fraud. The study also finds that the six variables which are, professional ethics, certification, practical experience, training, audit fee, and independence significantly influence the auditor’s expert performance to fraud detectionItem Elliptic Problems and the Variational form(Addis Ababa University, 2024-09) Wubu Getahun; Tadesse AbdiIn this thesis, given a bounded domain Ω⊂𝑅𝑛. we focus on the variational form ∫ Ω{𝛼∇𝑢⋅∇𝜙+𝑎𝑢𝜙}𝑑𝑥=∫ Ω𝑓𝜙𝑑𝑥,𝜙∈𝐻01(Ω) Of an elliptic problem, −𝛼Δ𝑢+𝑎(𝑥)𝑢=𝑓,𝑖𝑛 Ω With various conditions (Dirichlet, Neumann, and Robin) on boundary 𝜕Ω. We provide some general results on uniqueness and also find sub (supper)-solutions with in the frame work of variational setting.Item Global Solution Theorems for Odes(Addis Ababa University, 2016-08) Tuba Negesso; Tadesse AbdiThis thesis explores the globalization of the implicit function theorem (IFT) within the context of global solution theorems for ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Traditionally, the IFT provides powerful local results, but its global applicability has been less thoroughly examined. By extending the IFT to a global setting, this work develops new theoretical frameworks for understanding and solving ODEs on a broader scale. The study introduces generalized formulations of the IFT, derives significant global bifurcation results, and applies topological methods such as the Leray-Schauder degree to substantiate these results. Emphasis is placed on deriving conditions under which global solutions can be effectively analyzed and obtained.Item On Poisson Equation and Green’s Functions in 2D(Addis Ababa University, 2024-09) Adefris Mamo; Tadesse AbdiThis thesis explores the Poisson equation and its solutions through the application of Green’s functions in two dimensional domains. The Poisson equation, a fundamental partial differential equation in mathematical physics, describes the potential field generated by a given charge distribution. We begin by deriving the Green’s functions for the two dimensional Poisson equation emphasizing its role as a fundamental solution that encapsulates the boundary conditions & source terms. The thesis further investigates various methods for constructing Green’s functions including integral transforms and separations of variables, and demonstrate their application to specific boundary conditions. Additionally, we discuss the implications of our findings in physical context such as electrostatics and heat conduction. The results highlight the versatility and power of Green’s functions as a tool for solving linear differential equations, providing insights into theoretical aspects of the Poisson equation in two dimensions.Item On the Method of Green's Functions(Addis Ababa University, 2024-06) Lechisa Gashew; Tadesse AbdiIn this thesis, the construction of Green's function for IVP and BVP is discussed. We established continuity and symmetric properties of Green's function for ODEs, especially for Sturm-Liouville problems. We demonstrated the method of Green's function in conjunction with the Fourier transform to solve PDEs.
