Item Assessment of Talent Identification and Players Success Rate: With Specific Reference to Addis Ababa Basketball Projects(Addis Abeba university, 2016-05) Mechalo, Ayenalem; Tadesse, Aschenaki(PhD)The purpose of this investigation is to assess talent identification and players success rate of basketball projects under Addis Ababa city. Cross-sectional study design was best suited to carry out the study and qualitative and quantitative research method was also employed. The total populations of this study were 200 players and 10 project coaches from different basketball projects of Addis Ababa. Among the total population, 100(50%) project participants were selected using simple random sampling method and 10(100%) of coaches were selected using purposive sampling method by considering their coaching experience. Therefore to realize the objective of the study primary data were gathered from basketball project coaches as well as players. In addition to this document analysis was employed to observe personal profile of players. Questionnaire of talent identification developed by Rutten et al (2005) and Wegnear et al (2011), as well as structured interview was the main information gathering tools in the course of the study. Statistical analysis was carried out by using (SPSS) statistical package of social science version 20. Therefore quantitatively collected Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, mean, standard deviation and data gathered through structured interview were analyzed by organizing similar verbatim in to common themes. Independent sample t-test was carried out to determine the mean score difference between the project coaches and players regarding to goal of talent identification, target of talent identification, the availability of sufficient personnel to carry out talent identification, cooperative work, financial resources and infrastructure and support from family and government. Therefore independent sample t-test indicated that there was statistically significance mean difference appeared between players and coaches regarding to target of talent identification, the availability of sufficient personnel to carry out talent identification, cooperative work and financial resources and infrastructure (p< 0.05). The final results of the study show that, common method of talent identification in most projects was visual assessment. There was low rate of player’s participation in higher league or clubs after completing project engagement. Financial problem, limited number of personnel to identify material, low concern from family and government body and absence of equipment were the major problems that directly related with talent identification in Addis Abeaba basketball projects. Talent, goal, target, success rate, visual assessment. talent selectionItem The Challenges and Prospects of Women Football of Ethiopia Premier League: the Case of Dedebit Women Football Club(Addis Abeba university, 2014-05) Mekonnen, Merid; Tadesse, Aschenaki(PhD)The purpose of this research was to study variables that hinder the performance of Ethiopian women football premier league and to suggest possible alternatives that would achieve the prospects of the clubs and the improvement of the performance of the team. The sample of the subject consists of two football coaches, 20 Dedebit women football club players, and one officer, two journalists and totally twenty five participants were included. To conduct a research both quantitative, qualitative and descriptive survey method were employed. For this purpose, A variable data suggest the prospects of women of players in their clubs has a significance impact on the quality of playing football in the Dedebit women football team. Questioner, interview, and observation were used to collect the data pertains. The result of the study indicates that some variables affect the performance of Ethiopian women football premier league. The major findings of the study are shows that majority of the respondents stated that the variables lack of good communication among concerned body, lack of support and encouragement from their families, low attention given by median, players low motivation to new skill, knowledge of the coach how to demonstrate and organize training. Key words:- (club, premier league, prospects, coaching, training )Item Determinants of the Development of Handball Project the Case of Sendafa District, Oromia National Regional State(Addis Abeba university, 2012-08) Tirfu, Dawit; Tadesse, Aschenaki(PhD)Sport is a vital one for social, cultural and economical development of society. It is a very important instrument in the creation of modern economy. Understanding this situation in Ethiopia, Sport Commission designed establishment of projects from the grass root level on different discipline among which handball is the one. However, the performance of the project is not in a position as it has been expected. This study is therefore, to investigate the determinants of handball project in Oromia region Sendafa center.The main issues considered are selection of coaches, quality of coaches, trainee’s recruitment, management problem, coordination work among concerned bodies, trainees family and community support, the standard of field, equipment and facilities and interest of trainees and trainers. To conduct this study descriptive survey method was employed. Data were gathered from 40 trainees, 4 coaches, 12 town and woreda youth and sport affairs management members, 4 regional and zonal experts and 12 trainees family. Purposive sampling was carried out. The data for the study was obtained through questionnaires, interview and observations. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected. Qualitative data were narrated and interpreted. Whereas, percentage was used to analyze quantitative data. The result indicated that the coaches and trainees selected randomly with out standard selection method and talent identification, coaches have no required quality, no coordination work among stakeholders, there is a management problem, project facility and equipment is inadequate, there is lack of incentive for both trainee and coaches, and their interest is also low. Thus, it is recommended that result and professional based coach selection should be in place, coaches refreshment training /up dating should be carried out twice a year, trainees should be selected using talent identification, governmental concerned bodies should carried out close and regular supervision, the project should have well organized short and long term plan, regular reporting system should be in place, strong coordination among stakeholders, fulfilling the required facilities and equipment. Key words:-Determinants, project, development, handball, trainees, managements, coachItem The Problems of Coaching Middle Distance Runners: the Case of First Division Athletics Clubs in Addis Ababa City(Addis Abeba university, 2015-06) Eukar, Haftay; Tadesse, Aschenaki(PhD)This research has investigated the problems of coaching middle distance at 1st division athletics clubs of Addis Ababa. The researcher used 6 (six) club administrators, club coaches, Addis Ababa and Ethiopian athletic federation officials as well as 60 (sixty) athletes 5(male and female) from 6(six) clubs were purposefully selected. Questionnaire, interview, observation and document analysis were used as tools for data collection instruments. Frequency distribution and percentage were calculated for data analysis. In general, the results and findings show, lack of motivation and interest, lack of facilities, materials, medical care, nutrition and leadership style from the coaches‟ side; and coaches‟ qualification found to be poor. Job integration among the federations, clubs, coaches, athletes and other concerned bodies was not smooth and effective .Further unplanned and unsupervised personal trainings and competitions; number of coaches and athletes were not proportional. The athletes were not loyal to their clubs rather for their personal manager and their own benefits as well as insufficient amount of money allocations. Future research should concentrate on how intervene the problems of coaching middle distance runners at Addis Ababa athletics clubs. Keywords: athletes, athletics club, motivation and periodization
