Study of EC mechanism by cyclic voltammetry: Electrochemical oxidation of catechol in the presence of imidazole
(Addis Ababa Universty, 2010-06) Negash, Asfaw; Solomon, Theodros (Professor)
Electrochemical oxidation of catechol has been studied in the presence of imidazole as nucleophile in aqueous solution, using cyclic voltammetry. The results indicate the participation of catechol in 1, 4- Michael reaction with imidazole to form the corresponding catechol thioethers. Based on the observed EC mechanism, the homogeneous rate constants (kfcal) of the reaction of o-benzoquinone with imidazole were estimated by fitting the theoretical working curve with the experimental working curve. Key words: EC mechanism, cyclic voltammetry, catechol and imidazole.
