    The Effect of Workplace Design on Employee Performance: The Case of Addis Ababa city Administration Vital Events Registration and Information Office

    The design of a workplace environment affects the behavior and performance of an employee working on the space. Poorly designed space brings unfavorable moods to anyone visiting or staying in the place. This research aims to investigate the relationship between workplace design and employee performance in A.A city administration vital events registration & information office. The study focuses on the physical environment that evaluates and describes the various design factors that contributes to the change in employee performance. The factors studied in detail are the temperature of the room; ventilation; brightness; the acoustic factor; and the spatial arrangement and overall design of the office. In order to analyze this, quantitative research method is used with structured questionnaires conducted with 146 participants. Moreover, critically observing the study site also added a useful input to the research. Correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were used in order to test the hypothesis. The study finding revealed that there is a strong relationship between workplace design and employee productivity. From workplace design factors, lighting seems to be the dominant factor that has more effect on employee performance. Keywords: Workplace design, performance, environment
