    Exploring female Nurses’ Experiences in Relation to their Career Development - the case of Cure Ethiopia Children’s Hospital, Ethiopia

    This study has attempted to explore the experiences of female nurses in Cure Children Ethiopia Hospital towards the practice of provision of carer development opportunities for female nurses. In this study, exploratory qualitative research approach was administered. In-depth interviews, key informant interviews, focus group discussion, and observation were the techniques used to collect data from participants, who were the focus of the study. The findings of the study have depicted that there are clear individual, family, social, job-related, and organizational actors that influence the career development endeavors of nurses; both the nurses and the healthcare institution have the responsibility to design, plan, and implement nurses’ career development goals and initiatives; the career development initiatives needs to be aligned to the needs of both the individual female nurses and the healthcare institution; healthcare institutions are recommended to diversify their career development programs including internal and external development opportunities; healthcare institutions planning and providing more and more career development opportunities for female nurses would help them feel they are cared for and are likely to avoid the sentiment of impartiality imposed upon them. This study contributes in the body of knowledge in regards to addressing the critical needs and challenges towards the career development of female nurses.
