Item Audience Participation in Community Radio: Ethiopian Civil Service University’s Community Radio FM 100.5 in Focus(Addis Ababa University, 2019-06) Kebede, Dawit; Shiferaw, Teshager (PhD)The overall objective of the study is to assess Audience Participation in Community Radio Ethiopian Civil Service University’s Community Radio FM 100.5 in Focus. For the effectiveness of the research, efforts have been made to study the Audience Participation activities of Civil Service University Community Radio. The study has methodology which is designed based on mixed approach both qualitative and quantitative approach using survey method. The Respondents were selected using Stratified sampling technique. In addition, different books and documents were revisited to give depth to the research outcome. The researcher has also used democratic participatory media theory in order to examine the Audience Participation in Community Radio. The finding of the study shows that of the audience of the station had no control over CSUCR. They also did not get the chance to fully participate in the production activities. The main factor is that the station did not appreciate audience to participate in program production. It is clear that the CSUCR and the community are not strongly aligned. To conclude, as the finding shows the Audience Participation in CSUCR and the community is not effective.Item Discrete Element Method for Slope Stability Analysis(Addis Ababa University, 2003-07) Kebede, Dawit; Boled, . GirmaA static DEM has been presented to solve slope stability analyses. The method consists of discretizing the soil mass into blocks which are joined by Winkler springs. From relation of forces with stiffness and displacement, sets of simultaneous equations are solved to find displacements and stresses. The local stresses are used to calculate factor of safety while the displacement fields are used for predicting the critical failure surface. Example problems have been solved using DEM and the results have shown the potential of the method for slope stability analysis. Comparisons of the present model between limit equilibrium methods, FEM and with DEM models by other authors are made .The results suggest that DEM methods can be used both to predict the critical slip surface and give a factor of safety and that these outputs closely agree with the conventional limit equilibrium methods and the more rigorous FEMs.Item Simulation of Wind Power Generation System and Clean Development Mechanism for Electrification in Nazareth Site(Addis Ababa University, 2011-07) Kebede, Dawit; Assefa, Abebayehu (PhD)In this thesis, the wind speed data measured by the GTZ TERNA program is used to assess the energy output for a hypothetical 51 MW installed capacity wind farm at Nazareth site. Using the RETScreen model, the energy output of the wind farm is presented in terms of gross energy production, renewable energy delivered, specific yield and wind farm capacity factor. The energy output analysis is done using four wind energy conversion systems of rated capacity 600, 800, 1000 and 1500 kW. The RETScreen model is used to perform the financial feasibility analysis of the wind farm at this site, likewise the sensitivity and risk analyses are performed. Furthermore, a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) assessment is performed for this wind park. The net annual and total revenue generated from Certified Emission Reduction sales is calculated assuming Certified Emission Reduction prices of $6. The application of subsides on capital finance to the up-front and Clean Development Mechanism periodic cost are considered in order to evaluate the impacts of Certified Emission Reductions on project viability.
