    Provision of Special Needs Education for the Blind in Sebeta and Wollayta Schools

    The purpose of this study was to examine the extent and problem o/specia/ needs education provision for the blind in Sebeta and Wollayta ,I'choo/sfi)!" the blind and Ihe implication on the process 0/ implementing the educational program in Ihe schools as well. To canyout the study, relevant literature review was made on Ihe topic understudy. Re/ated documents were searched on teachers' level a/education, their professional Iraining, students' enrollment, school facilities, and .Ipecia/ instructional materials and services from the two schools, department o/,Ipecia/ education at the Ministry 1)/ Education and the Ethiopian National Association/or the Blind The subiects a/the study considered in collecting pertinent in/iJrmation were teachers, sludents and directors a/the two special schoolsfi)r Ihe blind. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, .fimnal 'Iuestionnaire, interview, and school observation were carried out. And the data obtained through these instruments were analyzed using percentages. Finally, the .findings of the study revealed that the two ,Ipecial schools .fiJI' the blind have difficulty in several basic factors ajjecting the education o/the children. To mention some: absence of specially modified curriculum, shortage 0/ professionally trained teachers, inadequacy in the provision 0/ special instructional materials and services, absence of mechanism .for classifying the two groups 0/ visually handicapped children (the blind and the partially sighted) etc.
