Electrochemical Determination of Trichlorophenol Using Modified Electrode
(Addis Ababa University, 2014-06-05) Hailemariam, Ephrem; Tessema, Merid (PhD)
The electrochemical behavior of 2,4,6-Trichlorophenol was investigated using single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) composite modified glassy carbon electrode (SWCNT/PEDOT/GCE. 2,4,6-Trichlorophenol was studied by using cyclic voltammetry at different scan rates over the potential range of -0.2 to 1.2 V. The results indicated that the reactions of the 2,4,6-Trichlorophenol at modified glassy carbon electrode is irreversible and charge-transfer controlled. Optimization of different variables such as pH of working solution, and modifier composition were carried out. Square wave voltammetry parameters such as frequency, amplitude and step potential were also adjusted to improve the method efficiency during the experiment. The modified electrode exhibited very good analytical performance due to this the analysis of sample showed best operational stability. Under this experiment, analytical parameters were calculated from the calibration curve of measured square wave responses as a function of concentrations of 2,4,6-Trichlorophenol. The reproducibility for the ten repeated measurements of 80 μM of 2,4,6-Trichlorophenol gave a relative standard deviation of 3.65%, indicating excellent reproducibility of the method. Linear calibration plots were obtained in the range 6 - 80 μmolL-1 with (R2 = 0.999) and the detection limit with (S/N=3) was as low as 7.5x10-8 molL-1.
