    Nature Based Tourism Destination Development and Management Practice in the Case of Chebera Churchura National Park and the Sourrounding Environs

    The main objectives of the study was an assessment of the tourism resource of Cheberea Churchura National Park and the surrounding area, challenges that hampering the nature based tourism development, opportunities that boost the nature based tourism development, identification of nature based tourism stakeholders with their role and responsibilities towards nature based tourism development and management practice in the case of Chebera Churchura National Park and Surrounding Environs. For the purpose of collecting, presenting and analyzing data for this study, a qualitative research design under case study domain has been used. The research used both primary and secondary sources of data. The target populations were selected using purposive sampling from park office, culture and tourism office of Konta Special Wereda, Ethiopian Wild life Conservation Authority, Tourism Ethiopia, hotel and tour company and academic institution. Interview and personal observation were employed for data collection. The collected data from the target population were analyzed, presented and discussed through qualitative approach to draw a lesson .The finding of the study shows that the area has several nature based tourism potential and others. However in the study area several limited potentials in terms of lacks of tourism infrastructure facility and service, lacks of finance and budget, human resource incapability, poor marketing and promotion, human wildlife conflict, lacks of coordination and cooperation. Hospitality of the host community, possession of various resources, attractive investment opportunities, environmental conservation practice of the society, peace and stability, other tourism resource attachments considered as opportunities to boost the development works. The Public (EWCA, TE, park office), private, local community, media, tourist, Ngo sectors identified as the key stakeholders for nature based tourism destination development and for the advancement of nature based tourism destination development of the park area.
