Fluorene-Based Alternating Copolymers: Synthesis and Characterization
(Addis Ababa Universty, 2010-07) Genene, Zewdneh; Mammo, Wendimagegn (Professor)
Alternating polyfulorene copolymers, which have donor-acceptor-donor segments in between the fluorene segments were synthesized and characterized. The donoracceptor- donor monomers, namely, 5,8-bis(5-bromothiophen-2-yl)-2,3-bis(3-(tert-butyl dimethylsilyloxy)phenyl)quinoxaline and 5,8-bis(5-bromothiophen-2-yl)-2,3-bis(3-(2-(2- methoxyethoxy) ethoxy)phenyl)quinoxaline were prepared starting from 3-bromophenol and 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole. The polymers were synthesized by using Suzuki coupling polymerization reaction. The resulting polymers showed good solubility in chloroform. The electrochemical behaviors of the copolymers were characterized by cyclic voltammetry. The synthesized compounds were characterized using spectroscopic techniques
