    Prevalence of Hypertension and Its Determinants in Ethiopian Adult population

    A community based cross sectional survey was conducted from October 15/1991 to December 31g 1991, to measure the prevalence of hypertension and its determinants in Wonchi Awraja. From 9 urban kebeles and 184 rural kebeles in the Awraja 24 kebeles were selected by mUltistage sampling from which a total of 2,745 individuals who are 15 years old or abcive were included in the study. Relevant measurements of-blood pressure, pulse rate count, body weight, height, waist girth, and hip girth of the study subjects were taken and a pretested questionnaire was filled to assess some of the other determinants of hypertension. It was found that the prevalence of hypertension in the Awraja is 8.3t. The urban population has a higher prevalence of hypertension 11. 8t, than that of the rural population, 7. 5t, (P
