Worldwide, approximately 15 million births occur too early (before 37 completed weeks of gestation) every year. These preterm or premature births represent about 11% of all deliveries. Preterm premature rupture of membranes occurs in approximately 2% to 3% of pregnancies and is responsible for one third of preterm deliveries
