(Addis Ababa Unversity, 2017-05) Eden Zegeye; Amr Abdalla (Professor)
This thesis examines the three principles of AfSol frameworks; ownership, commitment and shared values, and how this framework could be used to manage the irregular migration from Africa to Europe. Employers and isolate the importance of applying the AfSol framework in managing irregular migration, policies of different States regime that. The study employed an exploratory qualitative study design where purposive and snowballing sampling techniques were used to select the six experts who have done extensive work on migration and AfSol framework. A semi-structured interview was used to collect the data whereby triangulation approach was used to validate the accuracy of gathered data, after which a thematic analysis was done. The researcher has also taken the rules and regulations of handbook of IPSS. Based on the findings, the researcher identified that pre-migration measures were not incorporated into the policies of the destination countries while in the frameworks of AU and REC's migration policies, pre-migration measures such as free movement of Africans within the African States were considered but not implemented. Hence, Africans, the people, and the Government should take the initiative to understand their problems and to come up with their own solutions. The solutions can be identified from African values; values that can be shared by the African States and for this to happen there should be a commitment among the African States and Africans.
