Item The Implementation of Competency Based Training Program in Selected Techincal and Vocational Education and Training Colleges in Addis Ababa City Adiiviinstration(2007-05) Demelash, Bantalem; Kasaye, Woube (PhD)The purpose of this stu dy was to investigate the c hallenges of the implementation of Compe tency-Based Training (CBT) in some selected Add is Ababa City Administra tion TVET colleges: En toto and Mesrak TVET colleges in the fields of Textile a nd Garment, Automotive, Hotel a nd touri sm, Electrica l Elec tronics and Drafting a nd Surveying. In this s tudy, the basic questions were formulated and Desc riptive survey method was employed to assess the cu rrent: condition and overall pe rformance of Competency-Based Tra ining (CBT). The sample population included 14 Acade mic s tu ff members (Dean , TVET c hief expert a nd supe rvisor of the industries) 58 trainers a nd 188 train ees. The data collecting instruments in cluded ques tionn a ires which con s ist of close-ended questions and open-ended, semi structured interview ques tion s, document ana ly sis and observa tion. The d a ta was a n a lyzed using Desc riptive s tati s ti cal method. The statistical tools used inc lude; frequency, percentage and mean value. The study revealed that the understandin g, readiness and com mi tment o of trainers, trainees and Academic stuffs as well as the co nce rned bodies of the industries were low in implementing the program. Workshop mate rial, tools and equipment were inadequate in th ese co llcges . The inLcgration of school based and work place learn ing is a t low leve l. In a ddition to thi s, the assessments of the performance of students were not based on the required occupa tiona l standard a nd unit of competency, especially In work placc learning . Moreover, there was lack of coope rative training on difficult unit of competences with in occupa t ional standa rds. The study revealed that the understanding, readiness and commitment of trainers, trainees and Academic stuffs as well as the concerned bodies of the industries were low in implementing the program. Workshop material, tools and equipment were inadequate in these colleges. The integration of school based and work place learning is at low level. In addition to this, the assessments of the performance of students were not based on the required occupational standard and unit of competency, especially in work place learning. Moreover, there was lack of cooperative training on difficult unit of competences with in occupational standards. Based on the major findings recommendations were made
