(Addis Ababa University, 2024-06) Dawit Tamiru; Yohannes Beyene

However, this has created complex challenges, such as the transition to Amharic and English present educational challenges, impacting Ethiopia's education quality. Ethiopia's education quality is a burning issue, with a low percentage of students qualifying for higher education. The language policy favoring local languages over a common language of instruction creates learning obstacles for all. Barriers of language in educational achievements This study adopts a qualitative and descriptive approach, analyzing legal documents and existing research on the subject. The methodology involves describing and explaining language policy concepts, focusing on the legislative documents on language policy and its practical, social and educational implications. In conclusion, this research will provide crucial insights to assess the effectiveness of Ethiopian language policy and propose solutions to the challenges faced in education and social coexistence.
