(Addis Ababa University, 2020-06) Chalchisa, Bontu; Atara (PhD), Adane
Women participation in the workforce plays a significant role for country’s growth and development. And their participation in leadership contributes a lot in increasing the performance of an organization. However, their participation in leadership role is inadequate. This study focuses on what factors affect and contribute to low participation of women in leadership position in Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation. The study aims to look at the factors and challenges from women employees perspective. Non-probability or purposive sample selection was used to conduct the study. Additionally interview and questionnaire was used to answer the research question and meet its objectives. The findings of the study show that women are underrepresented in EBC and most of the women that are on leadership role are at lower level of leadership. Socio-cultural attitude, lack of confidence, balancing work-life responsibilities, and lack of organization commitment were found to be the factors affecting women participation in leadership position. And to draw more generalized conclusion, future researches should include other branches of the organization in their study
