This thesis is the analysis of traffic congestion in Addis Ababa with a particular emphasis on Addisu Gebeya Roundabout to Menelik II Square Corridor. Traffic congestion is one of many serious global problems of cities of both developed and developing countries. In most cities, especially in developing regions it results in massive delays, monetary losses, fuel wastage, and accidents. Due to poorly planned road networks and land use, and poor traffic management, it results into elongated traffic congestion. Due to the growth in population in Addis Ababa and the movement of people into urban areas coupled with an increase in car ownership and usage exacerbates the demand for road space and impact mobility. To achieve the goal of the study both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies have been used to analyze traffic flow problem. For a thorough and precise understanding of the problem data of traffic counting and traffic delay surveys were made. The findings of the study showed the worst time congestion in Addisu Gebeya Roundabout to Minllik II Square corridor is between 8 and 9 a.m. The main causes of traffic congestion on Addisu Gebeya Roundabout to Minilik II Square corridor areon street and illegal parking, poorly designed bus and taxi loading and unloading stops, Less public transport use and Rigid working hours of the employees and an inability to manage traffic flow. The corridor between Semen Mazegaja traffic light and Addisu Gebeya roundabout is very congested. The study area is affected by traffic congestion in terms of time waste, delayed mobility, psychological stress, inability to predict travel time, and fuel usage. The primary solutions to address traffic congestion in the Addisu Gebeya Roundabout to Minilik II Square corridor are control On-street and illegal parking, improving the standard of the bus and taxi stops, increased public transportation usage, and flexible working hours scheduling Keywords: Traffic congestion, urban mobility, Addis Ababa, parking management, public transport, traffic flow
