    Analyzing Meaning in Language: a Comparative Study of Derrida’s Deconstruction in Relation to Postmodern Thought, Western Philosophy of Language, and Traditional Language Theories

    This thesis is an exposition to Derrida’s deconstruction. Thus, it is concerned with the discussion of deconstruction which reveals the complexity of the relationship between language, meaning, and interpretation in different thoughts. The review of the concepts within the research discloses the comprehension that language is an unpredictable or transparent medium of communication. Language is a dynamic, context-dependent system. In which its meaning is constantly being constructed, deconstructed, and reconstructed. In terms of postmodernism in the philosophy of Derrida, it invites us to think meaning of language as plural, relational, and contingent. Derrida's deconstruction challenges also the traditional assumption of language as a transparent means of truth. Derrida challenges the binary oppositions frequently relied upon in western-oriented philosophies of language. The gist of this thesis is organized in a way to refute the deconstruction theory in relation to the thoughts of traditional theory, western and postmodernism taught to analyze the meaning of language.
