Item Assessing the Effectiveness of Marketing Strategy in the Case of Bank of Abyssinia(Addis Ababa University, 2016-05) Abera, Solomon; Workineh, Mesfin (PhD)When it comes to marketing strategies, most people spontaneously think about the 4P (Product, Price, Place, and Promotion). Market segmentation and the identification of target markets, however, are an important element of each marketing strategy. These are the basis for determining any particular marketing mix and the corresponding financial performance of any firm. In line with this, a number of empirical researches identified profound relationship among the company efforts paid to marketing strategy and the overall business performance, both market and financial. Based on this, the researcher undertook an assessment on the effectiveness of the marketing strategy with the objective to identify the relationship among the dependent & independent variables. The case study was Bank of Abyssinia. From the literature, three determinant factors are identifies for the first model and four ones the second model. Each variable is measured using 5-point Likert-scale. With the objective to answer the research questions, questionnaires were administered to target respondents of employees of the Bank that directly involved in formulating & implementing of the marketing strategy. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 20. The findings of this study revealed that the variation contributed by the three elements of the marketing strategy (i.e., segmentation, targeting & positioning) against the effectiveness of the marketing program is significantly large. Besides, four components of the marketing program (i.e., product, price, promotion & place strategy) played a considerable contribution towards the financial performance of the Bank. Finally, the finding showed that the bank considerations to the basic elements of the marketing strategy in the form of market segmentation, targeting and positioning as a strategic tools is not satisfactory rather it is moderate or average level of consideration is paid towards theses major elements of the marketing strategy. Further the researcher concluded that this yields an average or moderate marketing program and financial performance at endItem Factors Affecting Primary Education Enrollment of Pastoralist Children in The Pastoralist Areas of East Showa Zone(Addis Ababa University, 2007-08) Abera, Solomon; Ingdyehu, yalew (PhD)This study was conducted for investigating major ji/ctors that hindered primary education enrol/ment of the pasloralisl children in East Showa zone. To this end, a descriptive survey method was employed, Apart from consultation of documents from relevant sources, data were gatheredFom 300 Kerayu students, 80 teachers, 6 educational officers ,8 pastoral members who got formal education, 4 tribal leaders who were selected by applying random sampling technique for students and purposive sampling was used for teachers, educational officials and interviews. Questionnaire and interview were instruments employed for data collection while, mean, percentage, correlation and regression were used for analyzing the data. Based on the findings Fom data analysis socio-cultural and socio-economic constraints have been identified as major constraints. Furthermore, institutional factors like administratively inflexible school calendar, irrelevance of curriculum, low administrative capacity of educational officials were also found to be barriers to the educational participation of Kerayu and ftu pastoral children. D~pending on the results of the findings, it was recommended that policy and strategy for pastoral children education, flexible educational calendar, construction of boarding schools and hostels by inviting both bilateral and multilateral non-governmental organizations, sustaining school feeding program and widening its provision. Moreover, encouraging non-formal education, promoting the capacity bui/ding programs for educational officials and recruiting skilled educational personnel to improve service delivery were recommended.Item Status and Determinants to Reading Skill Development: Grade Four(Addis Ababa University, 2014-06) Abera, Solomon; Daniel Desta, Daniel (PhD)The purpose of this study was to assess determinants and status of reading skills development at grade four. Students cannot comprehend and learn from texts until they can read fluently. To this end, existing public doubt questions whether children are really learning the required skills at appropriate grade levels and ages. This points out to conduct further study on the subject. From three primary schools, 120 students were randomly selected and assessed in terms of five core reading skill components which are letter knowledge, vocabulary, fluency, accuracy and comprehension. Data were also obtained from 21 teachers of the same schools through questionnaire. Six school directors, supervisors and 12 parents were interviewed to complement the quantitative data. Data collected through the assessment tools and interviews were analyzed. The findings revealed that reading and comprehension is a difficulty children are facing at grade four, even if instruction is mother tongue based. Findings from fluency measures shows that, 28 % of students at grade four are non-readers, and about 58 % of studentsread less than 45 words per minute (are slow readers). About42 % student’s comprehension score is below average level. While 28 % of the respondent replied teaching methodology determines reading skill development; 24% also responded as parental involvement is a determinant. Other most determinants to reading skill development were found availabilityof student friendly books, mother tongue based instruction and self-contained classroom approachItem Status and Determinants to Reading Skill Development: Grade Four(Addis Ababa University, 2014-06) Abera, Solomon; Desta, Daniel (PhD)The purpose of this study was to assess determinants and status of reading skills development at grade four. A free energy functional that consists of spin glass (g) and superconducting ( ) order parameters and their coupling is used to show the influence of spin glass magnetic ordering on superconducting cooper pairs and vice versa. It is found that during coupling of spin glass and superconductor, cooper pairs begin to break by freezing of spins in spin glass and the spins from the pair participate in the process of magnetization so that to increase the magnetic susceptibility of spin glass superconductor until spin glass and superconductor coexist. In the coexistence region the susceptibility is less than pure spin glass system. The electrical conductivity of spin glass superconductor is also affected by the rise of spin glass transition, which leads to the decrease of the superconducting order parameter and the cooper pair density. Consequently the electrical conductivity is decreased
