    Study on the Practices of Bale Robe Educational Radio

    Nowadays, educational technologies are flourishing and schools should use them appropriately to achieve the needed objectives. Moreover, Mass media, especia lly, electronic ones like radio and television , have the power to suppOl1 class teachers on carefully selected topics. Specifically, educational radios can cover the Illost remote areas and help schools which lack best teachers and materials. This study focused on in vestigating the practices of Bale Robe educationa l radio. To this end, the study employed mainly qualitative research design. As a result, focus group discussions, individual in-depth interviews, and observation were employed to gather the necessary data. Additionally, documents of the radio station were analyzed depending on th eir context and language used. The study was situated within the theoretical framework of dia logical pedagogy. The findings of the study show that the Bale Robe Educational radio produces different entertainment and educational programs with the educational and entertainment messages. It also produces programs that promote the local language and culture through local music, narration and drama in Afan Oromo. Moreover, the study reveals that the Bale Robe Educational radio gives more air time for formal education in an official regional language. The findings again reveal that the Bale Robe Educational radio employees participate in the administration of the station as well as in the production of the programs. The practitioners who participated in the individual in-depth interviews and focus group discus sions confirmed that the radio station has various challenges like lack of training, logistics and dig ital materials among olhers.
