It has two major histological subtypes: squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. Globally, esophageal cancer is the seventh leading type of cancer and in addition, it remains a significant cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. The management of esophageal cancer involves a multidisciplinary approach, including surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.
