Shiferaw Mulatu (PhD)Abu Abdela2024-04-032024-04-032022-03https://etd.aau.edu.et/handle/123456789/2696The major aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between tourism and rural development in Wenchi village, wonchi Crater Lake, Oromia region, Ethiopia. This study was carried out using a survey method and the data were collected using questionnaire from 150 head of households in the villages of the study. The validity of the questionnaire was verified and the reliability of the instrument was confirmed by Cronbach’s alpha test, which was obtained between’ 0.715 to 0.871. The results of the data analysis showed a positive and significant relationship between tourism development and socio-cultural, environmental, economic, local sustainability, risk management and institutional (r = 0.871, 0.854, 0.838, 0.765, 0.715 and 0.762 respectively). Especially, the intensity of this correlation was relatively higher for sociocultural development. The study recommends that the stakeholders in the industry should work in harmony in expanding the employment and income generation potential of tourism as well as the private sector actor should be encouraged in all possible means to invest in the productive tourism activity, and utilize from the opportunity offered from ever developing tourism sector.
