SaY!1 Abmad cAli is one among the intellectual Muslim <Afar scholars; paradoxically his histDlY and his literal legacy is 1101 known. The researcher has tried to shed same light on the biography of SaY!1 Abmad cAli. His litermy contribution is also discussed with particular focus on his Arabic histDlY manuscript. Its concel'l1 is the civilizalion of the <Afar people and the historical sllitanates of <Afar sllch as the Emirate of al-Fat!l, the Sultanate ofAwsa, Ra!wyto, Gobacad, Tagura, Zayla<; and the Adal sultanate. The culture, traditions and customs of the <Afar people, the family lineage of the <Afar clans and their ancestors, the geographical location and land structure of the <Afar land, the political histDlY of the 'Afar people with their neighbors and how their life associated with Islalll is alsa discussed.
