To arrive at the desired objectives, both quantitative and qualitative approaches were applied. Three data collecting instruments were used. Structured questionnaire was designed and administrated to 176 sample respondents. Four focus group discussions each with ten members were conducted. In-depth interview schedule was designed and conducted with twelve respondents. Furthermore, four key informants selected from project officers were also interviewed. Textual explanation and narration of the summarized data was applied upon the qualitative data while descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage and mean formed a substantial part of analysis for the quantitative data. Mc Nemar test was performed to test the improvements brought up on the beneficiaries' food security after the intervention of the project. Chi square was performed to see the association between the opinion of female and male respondents on gender sensitivity of the project's design and coordination as well as on integrating gender issues in the project intervention. Results indicated that the project under study is quite efficient in improving food security status of the beneficiaries. The study also revealed that the project's benefit favors male beneficiaries over the female and this was due to several reasons among which less gender responsiveness of the project's goal and indicators, women's less representation in the project's design and coordination, religious dogma and traditional practices that devaluate women's productive role, and female beneficiaries' over load with triple roles are the common. The major policy implication of the current study is that some of the objectives, indicators, and approaches of the project under study need to be revised in such away that they must be gender responsive.enWorld Bank Food Security ProjectThesis
