The study conducted with the objectives to characterize domestic tourist and possible intervention to mitigate pollution on the Lake Tana and its surrounding, examine environmental awareness of domestic tourist towards environmental protection on Lake Tana and its surrounding and explore the environmental impact of domestic tourists visiting Leka Tana and its environment. To achieve the objective, the mixed research approach was employed. Data was collected from 400 sample respondent by purposive and random sampling techniques. The study used self-administered survey questionnaires and interview checklists to collect the data. The researcher employed descriptive research design. to analyse the data by using descriptive statistics, and thematic analysis (narrations) as data analysis tools. The findings of the descriptive statistics revealed. The funding of the study revealed that there is no responsible body who regulates the overall activity of domestic tourist in the lake, local tourists were not have enough awareness about the environment due to his they through all materials towards the lake, the fishes were decreased from time to time. Based on the finding it is suggested that the Lake Tana administrates better to work and apply all necessary awareness creation modalities to enhance the awareness level of domestic tourism and Formulate norms, rules and regulation that guiding the domestic tourist other stakeholders.
